MAY 11th  READINGS

    First Reading:   Acts 2:1-11

Second Reading:   1 Corinthians 12:3-7, 12-13

                Gospel:   John 20:19-23

May 4, 2008:  As we have Archbishop Kurtz with us this weekend to bless and celebrate the property on which will eventually rise a new place for education and for worship, it might be nice to pause and reflect on what is the purpose of a Christian Community.

First of all, we might say it is intended to pass on the faith in Jesus Christ, and second, to continue to do the things He calls us to do, namely to love, serve and forgive one another. Hopefully, we are all striving to do all these things more and more throughout our lives, and in doing so, we draw closer and closer to the Kingdom.

This seems to be an appropriate time for a new pastor to come in, to work with the planning and implementation of a building plan.  May it also be an opportunity for those who have gotten away from church, either intentionally or unintentionally, to reconnect to the community.  As I prepare to move on, I want to say I'm sorry for any hurts or disappointments I caused anyone during my tenure here.  I ask for pardon from anyone I offended, and at the same time, offer my forgiveness for those few who hurt me at times with their sharp criticism.  Let's all let go and move on and give thanks for the good things we have to celebrate!

If you stop and think of all the progress that has taken place in only 200 years, with the first Catholics who arrived in Hardin County, it truly is amazing!  Just imagine what another 200 years might bring about.  I can imagine a chapel hovering in the sky like the space station, and everyone shuttling back and forth in their hydrogen-powered hover craft.  (Maybe I've watched too many Jetson cartoons, you're thinking?)  Whatever the future holds, one thing is for certain, the foundation is being built right now, and Christ will be praised in all things.

Love and prayers,

St. James, St. Ignatius, and St. Ambrose, pray for us!

STEWARDSHIP“…Sanctify Christ as Lord.  Always be ready to make a defense to anyone who demands form you an accounting for the hope that is in you.”  I Peter 3:15   Actions speak louder than words.  Let your stewardship be your reply.  Stewardship involves a change of heart, embodied not just in a single action, nor even a series of actions, but in a way of living.

          “GENERATIONS OF FAITH” THEME

                    ADVENT 2007-ADVENT 2008

PRAYER/SPIRITUALITY

To be able to pray we need a pure heart.

With a pure heart we can see God.

We need a pure heart to love Jesus and to live His life-

           the life of Lazarus

            the life of Mary

the life of the Holy Eucharist

            the life of the Passion

whatever He chooses for our life.

It is not we who live, it is He who has to live in us.

Allowing Him to live His life in us is prayer.

And the more we allow Him, the more we grow in the likeness of Christ.

------Mother Teresa, in “Words to Live By”

PLEASE PRAY for world peace and respect for all life, from conception to natural death.

Jesus told His disciples to invite the poor, blind, and the lame to dine with us, saying, “You should be pleased they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just.”  So, also, when we speak, work, and pray for unborn children, we advocate for those least able to repay us.  Thus, love for the unborn is the most selfless form of love.  Nothing comes from them in return.---Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life

BICENTENNIAL MOMENT:      The May 1, 1948 issue of The Record called upon diocesan Catholic hospitals to take the lead in integration by admitting black citizens.  Sts. Mary and Elizabeth and St. Joseph Hospital began taking black patients that same year.  During this era, The Record frequently raised questions of conscience, especially about race, in its editorial columns.
